Storm-Lifehouse

We all face storms in our lives. In their song Storm, Lifehouse sings of the emotions we all face as we tread through:
How long have I been in this storm?
So overwhelmed by the ocean’s shapeless form
Water’s getting harder to tread
With these waves
Crashing over my head

If I could just see you
Everything would be all right
If I’d see you
This darkness would turn to light

And I will walk on water
And you will catch me if I fall
And I will get lost into your eyes
I know everything will be alright
I know everything is alright

I know you didn’t bring me out here to drown
So why am I ten feet under and upside down
Barely surviving has become my purpose
Because I’m so used to living underneath the surface

If I could just see you
Everything would be all right
If I’d see you
This darkness would turn to light

And I will walk on water
And you will catch me if I fall
And I will get lost in your eyes
I know everything will be alright
I know everything is alright

Scripture tells us of a literal storm the disciples faces in Matthew 14:30-31
But seeing the wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, "Lord, save me!" Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him, and said to him, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?"

Peter chose to get out of the boat and walk on water with Jesus, but soon he became distracted and began to sink. He let his gaze wander from Jesus to his troubles and that is where his trouble really began. Knowing Jesus would save him, he cried out and Jesus asked him about his doubt. We also have a choice to make in the midst of our storms, we can get distracted by the wind and waves like Peter or we can focus on Christ who is there in the midst of the storm.
